What is the CDCP?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a government plan that helps pay for dental care.
It's for people who don't have dental insurance and don't earn too much. It can cover checkups, cleanings, fillings, and more.

Who qualifies for the CDCP

To be eligible, you generally need to meet all four of the following. Eligibility is reassessed each benefit year.

No private dental insurance

No access to coverage through an employer, pension, professional group, or a plan you or a family member purchased.

Family income under $90,000

Your adjusted family net income determines both eligibility and how much of your treatment cost the plan covers.

Canadian resident for tax purposes

To qualify, you must be a Canadian tax resident with a valid Social Insurance Number and meet CDCP eligibility criteria.

Tax return filed

You and your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable, must have your most recent tax return filed with the CRA.
The CDCP is attestation-based: your application is accepted based on what you report, then may be reviewed later against your tax records. If your circumstances change - for example, you gain private coverage - you're required to let Service Canada know.

What the CDCP helps pay for

The plan covers a broad range of oral health services. Some need preauthorization before treatment can begin.

CDCP frequently asked questions

1Do I need a referral to use my CDCP coverage here?
No. Once your CDCP enrollment is confirmed, you can book directly with our Orleans office like any other patient.
2Will I have to pay anything out of pocket?
Your out-of-pocket costs will depend on your income level and the CDCP coverage for your treatment. If there is any balance not covered by the plan, we’ll review it with you before treatment.
3Is Morningstar Dental accepting CDCP patients?
Yes. We welcome new and existing Canadian Dental Care Plan patients, including emergency visits, at our Orleans office.
4What if I gain private dental insurance after I enroll?
You're required to notify Service Canada, since the CDCP is only available to people without access to private coverage. Continuing to use CDCP after gaining private insurance can affect your eligibility.
5Does the CDCP cover implants or braces?
Implants aren't covered. A limited range of orthodontic services is part of the plan but hasn't been implemented yet, with a start date still to be announced.
